Gestalt Associates Training Los Angeles

GATLA is a training center dedicated to excellence in psychotherapy training. Our goal is to promote the application and development of contemporary Gestalt Therapy theory and practice.

In addition to a tri-level ongoing training program in Los Angeles and Seattle, GATLA conducts the longest running annual psychotherapy program in the world – our European Summer Residential Gestalt Therapy Training Program. GATLA’s training focuses on field theory, phenomenology, and dialogue. We emphasize process and the therapeutic relationship as being the best entry point to access characterological ways people interrupt healthy self regulation of contact and withdrawal. GATLA’s training emphasizes contemporary theory from within and outside of Gestalt Therapy, hands-on practice and supervision, and observation of the experienced faculty’s work.

Summer Residential

GATLA conducts the longest running annual residential psychotherapy program in the world. 2024 MARKS THE 51st ANNIVERSARY of GATLA’s Summer Residential Gestalt Therapy Training Program. The purpose of this program is to provide the highest quality of training available for psychotherapists in Gestalt and Experiential psychotherapy and other relational models of therapy while retaining the flexibility to be adaptable to practitioners of many other modalities. The Residential Program is scheduled for July, 2024 in a location TBD.

GATLA’s training focuses on field theory, phenomenology, and dialogue. We emphasize process and the therapeutic relationship as being the best crucible to access characterological ways people interrupt healthy self regulation of contact and withdrawal. GATLA’s training emphasizes contemporary theory from within and outside of Gestalt Therapy, hands on practice and supervision, and observation of the experienced faculty’s live work.

Weekend Program

GATLA – Gestalt Associates Training Los Angeles offers a multi-year post graduate training program in Gestalt Therapy which meets six weekends per academic year. The LA program currently meets synchronously online. This is a hands-on training program in which trainees work as therapist under live supervision and observe experienced faculty working with participant volunteers. Cutting edge Gestalt theory is an integral part of the training as is the opportunity to do personal work within the context of the training group.

GATLA also offers a multi-weekend training program in Seattle which includes a separate group for BIPOC Therapists (Black, Indigenous, People of Color). GATLA is offering this training with the intention of providing a psychotherapy program that is affirming and inclusive of the experiences of BIPOC therapists.

Residential Program

The purpose of the Summer Residential Gestalt Therapy Training Program is to provide the highest quality of training for psychotherapists in Gestalt and Experiential psychotherapy and other relational models of therapy while retaining the flexibility to be adaptable to practitioners of many other modalities. All faculty will do clinical demonstrations and all work will be related to theory. Participants in the Clinical Practicum and Supervision Practicum groups work with clients from less advanced groups in individual therapy under supervision of faculty, Distinguished Gestalt Visitors, and/or Group Leaders.
